January's Grounded Practice is a guided exercise called "The Relaxing Place" some people may have heard of or done similar ones called "The safe place." The Relaxing Place adapts the therapy model called DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). This practice can be helpful to use our senses to ground ourselves or be present in the here and now in a way that helps our bodies feel safe. For many people, slowing down and attuning inward to our body's experience and emotions can be overwhelming. The Relaxing Place can be one tool to help in that process, so we can be more fully aware of what is showing up without dismissing our real emotions and often distressing experiences and be able to re-write (transform) any previous patterns we have had that no longer serve us.
